After leaving private practice in 2012, I started a public campaign to help men understand and embrace a holistic approach to their health care. The fact is people concerned about men’s health have limited resources. The messages they receive from media are misleading at best, damaging at worst. Very few people with proven expertise can speak authoritatively (from a clinical and practical perspective) about issues with which men routinely grapple: Work, relationships, etc.). When I speak publicly about men’s health, I: Share real-life stories that emphasize men understand the importance of keeping themselves healthy. Combat the media stereotype that portrays men as stupid and incapable. Advocate strongly that we as a society must encourage men to look after their own health.
Love, Sex, Myth, Medicine... and Political Correctness
What I want to do with this book is present what I think is the real side of men. In The Life of Men I share what I have been hearing from men in my urology practice over the past forty years. As a man, woman, or parent of a boy, I'll take you through the health, social and cultural factors that must be recognized, reflected upon, and understood now if we are to improve men's health and place in society.
